Our mission is to inform, discover, and celebrate works composed by women
Our annual concert event serves as a beautiful convergence of music and community support, as we also focus on raising funds and collecting feminine hygiene products for those in need within our community.
This benefit concert provides a platform for women to perform works by female composers. It empowers female performers to prepare and showcase compositions by women that they might not have the opportunity to present elsewhere. Previous events have been resounding successes, offering opportunities for women to perform solos and participate in ensembles, and enabling students from various schools to collaborate in an extracurricular choral setting.
Additionally, student performers participate in special pre-concert afternoon filled with music, creativity, and community! Participants will paint and decorate toiletry pouches, that will be filled with essential supplies, and then donated to local women's shelters. This year we've partnered with Hagar's Heart and The Archway. To date, we’ve raised over $2,200 and donated more than 1,800 hygiene products—thanks to the generosity of our audience and supporters.
Why Was Her Story: A Benefit Concert Created?
My name is Rebecca Germany, the founder of Her Story: A Benefit Concert. I studied opera in college for six years, and during that time, I was assigned over 70 pieces to learn—yet only one of them was composed by a woman. That imbalance stuck with me. When I looked into it further, I discovered there’s no shortage of incredible music written by women—there is simply a lack of representation and opportunity. That realization is what inspired Her Story. I wanted to create a platform where performers could engage with music composed by women—not just for the sake of variety, but to be part of a meaningful cause.
Her Story also partners with local organizations to support important causes. This year, we are proud to support Hagar’s Heart and The Archway, two organizations that serve individuals affected by domestic violence. They provide safe spaces and resources that help women embrace self-care and reclaim their independence.
